November is here!

Hello friends!

November is here and so am I! The past week has been pretty hectic so I just didn’t post. However, now that I have found myself back in a relaxing cafe, it seems like the perfect time to get back to writing.

I originally came to this cafe called Pavement in Boston to meet up with a friend. I biked there! It was pretty fun but also a little bit scary since it was already dark. This is my first time at the cafe and I love it! It’s super cute. We had a great meeting and afterwards I was so hungry that I got some food. It was delicious. Just finished the last bite! I ordered a salad that consisted of mesclun greens, honey, shredded beets, walnuts and cranberries. OMG YUM!! I will be coming back here at some point.

This morning I ran 8 miles along the river. It was a good run. This week I am feeling more tired than usual on my runs. I think all my training is finally starting to get to my body. I’ve never done this type of long distance training before so my body isn’t totally used to it yet. Not to mention I ran 13.1 miles on Monday (yes that’s a half marathon!) and 7.5 miles yesterday. Soo maybe I’m just tired from all that. Who knows. Lets hope I get adjusted soon :)

Triple green

Good morning!!

I woke up at 7:30 to get my run in before class. Unfortunately, I had some malfunctions with my headphones that I didn’t realize until after starting my run. This was a little frustrating because I rely on an app called Run Keeper when I go on long runs. Today my workout was 2 miles slow, then twelve 400 m intervals running fast with 30 sec slow in between followed by one last mile at a slower pace. Without my headphones it was hard to hear when I needed to switch my pace not to mention in the beginning I kept stopping to try to fix my headphones before realizing it was a lost cause and taking them out. It was a bit of a bummer because I couldn’t run with music but it was good practice because I won’t be able to run with headphones during my race. It was kind of nice in a way. I only started running to music a few months ago and I love it but it felt kind a little refreshing to go back to my old way.

I ate a fairly green breakfast after my workout! I had three slices of honeydew melon, a pistachio muffin, and three egg whites. A theme of threes this morning! I also drank a glass of chocolate milk and a cup of coffee.



I am thinking about going to Crossfit and or yoga this afternoon. We’ll see if that happens!

Long afternoon

Good evening!

I finally got back to my room after leaving it this morning for breakfast! For some reason class felt a lot longer than usual today. I am really not a fan of Tuesdays.

For lunch I had stuffed pizza (quattro formaggio), an apple, some sweet potato chips, and a chocolate muffin top. This was all eaten through my six hours of class.

Tonight, I didn’t have a salad for dinner! That’s (almost) a first! My dinner consisted of mushrooms, grilled chicken breast over some brown and wild rice, greens, and a little pasta. I couldn’t decide if I wanted pasta or rice so I just got a little of both. I also ate a couple of watermelon slices and pineapple.

I also went to a social with the The Leadership Institute at Harvard College (an organization on campus that I am in) and enjoyed good company and appetizers. I ate bread with hummus and nachos. Good evening snack!

I still feel really sore so I am not sure how this workout is going to go tomorrow haha. We will see!

Apples on Apples (and other food as well)


Today is my day off from running and lifting which is great because my legs aren’t in any mood do any cardio/strength training. Yesterday afternoon I lifted at the MAC gym with some of the other students in the Crossfit club. On Monday’s we don’t go to the Crossfit gym. I have actually never been there yet! I am hoping to go tomorrow afternoon. We did squats and bench press. I don’t think I’d ever done max squats before yesterday because in soccer we only lifted to prevent injury. Boy do I feel it today! Also, last night the event that had been cancelled last week got rescheduled yay so I did a lot of swing dancing yesterday as well. It was a good time!!

Yesterday’s lunch consisted of a mini Lara bar (peanut butter cookie kind), an apple, a corn muffin, and apple cider!!! When I went to Honey Pot Hill I bought some, but didn’t open it until yesterday. It was such a treat. I really love apples. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been eating at least one a day. I’ll be really sad when I eat all the apples I got apple picking. The dining hall apples are terrible because they soft when you bite into them. I can’t stand that! Then I’ll either have to go grocery shopping (which probably won’t happen) or wait until I go home for Thanksgiving to enjoy a delicious crisp locally grown apple.

For dinner I fixed myself up a salad with lots of veggies and chicken. The salad consisted of mesclun greens, tomatoes, carrots, chickpeas, cucumber, black pepper, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil. I also made myself a bowl with a little pasta, and mostly broccoli and corn (yes, more vegetables!). For dessert, my usual whole grain bread with honey and peanut butter. Overall a satisfying and filling meal!


This morning I had cereal for breakfast! It had been a while. I made myself a bowl with Bran and Special K and I ate it with vanilla soy milk. I also ate part of an egg white (sadly half it was overcooked) and fruit (banana and cantaloupe ). I also drank a cup of coffee. Need to stay awake for my 6 hrs. of straight class today!

Early start to the week

Good morning!

This morning I got up at 7:30 to go on a run before classes. I ran 8 miles at  7:45 mile pace. Once again, I ran along the river and the last 4 miles were brutal because I was running into the wind. I was so relieved when I completed my workout! I wasn’t feeling at my best (possibly from the food last night, also my right quad has a deep knot that was feeling uncomfortable), but I pushed through!

For breakfast I ate a part of a waffle with honey and oats, fruit (pineapple, watermelon, and grapefruit), and two egg whites. I drank a glass of water and chocolate milk. I wasn’t pleased with the waffle. I think there was something wrong with the honey because it tasted really strange. Everything else tasted normal though.

Now I’m off to class! I am planning on getting my flu shot later today. Normally I don’t get vaccinated, but my mom sent me an article that kind of freaked me out so I’m just going to get one.

Good evening!

I had a wonderful run along the river this afternoon. It was great because I could see the boats racing as I was running. I ran 5 miles at 7:50 mile pace. I wasn’t trying to push the pace too much (it was supposed to be an easy day whatever that means) but my legs were feeling alright and I wanted to get back to cheer on the Radcliffe boats! I honestly have no idea what my limits are in terms of pace. I just try to find a tempo that works and that I can sustain comfortably. And I do feel myself getting more used to these runs. 5 miles seems like no big deal now that I know I am able to run 12 miles (that was at  7:45 mile pace!). It’s really a great feeling. I like seeing that I am making progress. After my run, I had about 10 min to spare so I walked by the free food tents to see if I could have a bite of fuel since I knew I would be waiting around a bit. I found the veggie burger samples (so good!) and I also got some water. The races I watched were great! And our women’s lightweight team won gold so that was exciting! I never really knew too much about crew before this weekend. I definitely have a better understanding now and I think I appreciate it more than I did before.

For dinner tonight I make myself a salad with mesclun greens, spinach, beets, chicken with a tomato sauce, parmesan cheese, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, black pepper, and a thin slice of whole grain bread with olive oil. Something was not right though because my stomach did not feel that great after eating it. But for some reason I was really determined to have a small bowl of ice cream (Sundae Sunday!) and after I ate that I felt terrible. Like something was piercing my stomach. Not very fun stomach pains. So that felt kind of awful. Luckily it only lasted about 45 min and then I felt back to normal. I am not really sure what caused it. Maybe it was something I ate or maybe I just ate too fast? I didn’t think I ate too fast but who knows. It will remain a mystery. Anyways, after a couple meetings I ate an apple and my stomach didn’t act up again so I am glad about that! Now I can comfortably do more homework! :) So much fun.

Harvard Forest

Hello friends! I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend. I know I’ve enjoyed mine. Last night I had a real dinner! Finally haha. I took a nice nap after going to Head of the Charles and then went to get dinner in the dining hall. I made myself a salad with mesclun greens, beets, bulgar pilaf, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. And I ate a banana! I was feeling a little low on the potassium. I think it had been a while since I last ate one. I also drank a cup of coffee. 


This morning I woke up pretty early. Too early for a Sunday. I went on a field trip with one of my classes to the Harvard Forest. It was a fun field trip so it was worth getting up early. Plus I got to eat doughnuts for breakfast. Yum. I splurged and ate two. One to wake me up and one before walking into the forest! I needed to wake up somehow, right?

The forest was beautiful! I had so much fun walking around and looking at the foliage. I love how the leaves are changing color. I couldn’t help but take lots of pictures! I made friends with part of a fern branch and carried it around the whole trip. It was kind of my own little flag haha because I kept waving it around. I was definitely enjoying myself.


Once we finished walking, it was time for lunch! I ate an apple (not pictured, whoops), and a mini Lara bar and granola bar that I got from Head of the Charles yesterday. I also ate half a chocolate chip cookie that my friend, Mai, shared with me! Note: I ate part of it before remembering to take a picture. After lunch, it was time to head back to school. I have some homework to do and I am also going on a run later! Maybe I’ll be able to catch the last couple crew races on my run.

Three in one

Hello! Happy Friday! Yesterday turned out to be quite the day. While I only had 2 hours of class today, my evening was pretty busy. I went to work after my class. We’ve been trying to create working electrodes for our future experiments but so far this has been proven a little difficult. Faculty Dinner


Yesterday was a fun day. I went on a 5 mile run after my classes. I ran along the Charles River, which is probably my favorite run to do. The other day I ran to Fresh Pond and then ran around it (6 mile run) which was really beautiful, but the Charles is just nice and easy to get to. Also, there are dirt paths for runner to use. I really like that because then there is a little less impact on my knees. Anyways after my run, I went to the dhall to get some lunch. I call it my protein lunch because I had an egg white, spinach salad with chickpeas (and beets and corn), and peanut butter and honey on whole grain bread. I also ate my egg with bread (need those good carbs!). I also had a glass of chocolate milk (great after a workout!).


Then I did some homework before the Adams Faculty Dinner! Every semester we have a faculty dinner where students in the house can invite a faculty member to a fancy dinner in the dining hall. I invited my concentration advisor, Andrew Berry. He is awesome! We had a great time and enjoyed a nice dinner with awesome company! I sat with two of my good friends, Lizzy and Ashley and their faculty.

For starters we had a salad with raspberry vinaigrette, candied walnuts, and gorgonzola cheese. We also had a whole grain bun. Our entree was salmon on top of lentils and broccolini. I really enjoyed it! Dessert was delicious. We had a mini apple pie served with a small scoop of ice cream. And some coffee on the side!


I was supposed to head to another event after the dinner, but it got cancelled. Bummer. So instead, I did some homework before talking a break to catch up on my tv shows and then studying some more before going to bed. I would still call that a pretty good night. Well at least a semi-productive night!!
